In January 2007, BMC-Westside became the first certified LEED building in Bend. The building was designed to be 25% more energy efficient than Oregon Code and provide abundant natural daylighting.
LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building through a comprehensive system offering project certification. Some of the LEED specifications included in the construction include: humidity control to help reduce airborne bacterial transfer; 20% reduction in building water use; 50% reduction in water used for landscape irrigation; on-site storm water detention pond with surrounding garden for gazebo, built from unused brick and steel from the project; use of low VOC materials; high recycled-content products; use of abundant natural daylights in exam rooms, offices and waiting areas. |
